ENSC1004 - Lecture 4
Elastic Moduli 3 - Slides
Recap: Young’s Modulus
Bonding Recap in OneNote

Bonding Between Atoms

  • To understand why different materials have the Young’s modulus that they do, we need to inspect them at the atomic level

Types of Interatomic Bonds:

  • Primary bonds
    • Ionic, covalent and metallic bonding
    • Strong bonds
  • Secondary bonds (intermolecular bonding)
    • Van der Waals (dispersion forces), hydrogen bonds
    • Weak bonds
