Engineering Alloys 2 - Slides cont.

Titanium Alloys

  • Used for its high corrosion resistance
  • Limited by its expensive nature

General properties:

  • Density: 4.51 g/cm
  • Melting temperature: 1668C
  • High specific stiffness and strength
  • High corrosion and oxidation resistance
  • Bio-compatible

Refractory metals

  • Metals with melting point > 2000C
  • Can only be produced by powder sintering
  • Examples: tungsten (W), molybdenum (Mo), Niobium (Nb), Tantalum (Ta), Rhenium (Re)
