Electromagnetism

• Faraday’s Law of Magnetic Induction

  • Electromotive Force (emf) $-$ energy provided by a source
    • Induced emf: $ϵ=-N\frac{d{\Phi }_B}{dt}$
    • Measured in volts ($V$)
  • Flux $-$ measure of magnetic field strength
    • ${\Phi }_B=\int \vec{B}\cdot d\vec{A}$

• Lenz’s Law $-$ induced emf gives rise to a current whose magnetic field opposes the change in magnetic flux

• Lorentz Force Law $-$ current carrying conductor in magnetic and electric field experiences a Lorentz force

  • Flemming left-hand rule gives direction of force
