Fundamental Electrical Quantities

• Charges $-$ fundamental particles carrying electric energy
  • Protons - positive
  • Electrons - negative
    Mass $m_e=9.11\times 10^{-31}\text{kg}$
    Charge ($q_e=-1.60\times 10^{-19}C)$
  • Charge function: $Q(t)=Q(0)+{\int }_0^{t}i(t)dt$
• Current $-$ flow of electric charge
  • Current function: $i(t)=\frac{dQ(t)}{dt}$ measured in Ampere ($\text{A}$)
• Voltage $-$ electrical potential difference
  • Drives the flow of current
• Power $-$ amount of electrical energy transferred per unit time
  • Determined by $\text{V}\times \text{I}$
• Energy $-$ the capacity to do work
  • Proportional to power and time
• Electric field strength $-$ intensity of electric force experienced by a charged particle at a given point
