Ex 2 - Sense-bound Object Writing

  1. A rusted heart locket lying on a bed of golden flowers
  2. 5 min writeup:
    • Sight darkness illuminated by the faint glow of bouncy, bright gold glowing flowers. The ceiling appears to never start as the pitch black sky seems to extend upwards forever.
    • Sound there is an absence of any external sound, the slow thump of a heartbeat being the only break in the silence.
    • Smell the flowers radiate a warm and buttery aroma, with hints of lavender and caramel.

Verbs vs Adjectives

  • Cut out adjectives and replace them with verbs
  • Adjectives reduce the impact of your writing
  • Show don’t tell

Ex 3 - Verb Dial

  • Take a verb and choose a target emotion
  • Try and dial up your verb to fit that emotion

Target emotion: Isolation

A banner writes the morning,
As a laptop reaches to capture the silence,
A shiver is healed by a beanie,
Cold prescribes a jacket,
Light injects through the window,

Cannot have too much internal sections in a song

Break established rule (e.g. rhyming scheme) —> spotlight important moment/idea in song, mark point of transition (e.g. transition from external to internal segment)
